DescriptionDuring the 19th century Waldoboro was known for producing five-masted schooners. Shipbuilding has since given way to small industry, farming and other commercial activities. Situated at the headwaters of the Medomak River near Muscongus Bay, the community was settled largely by German families.
Clamming, lobstering and sauerkraut production are the primary industries. Several art galleries feature works by local artists. Waldoboro also is home to the renovated 1936 Waldo Theatre, phone (207) 832-6060, and the locally renowned Moody's Diner, a part of Maine lore and legend.
