Description
Located in the heart of the Kansas prairie, Wellington was named for the Duke of Wellington. The town’s eight original settlers selected the present site in April 1871 because it was just north of the Indian Territory boundary line, which made it a gateway for homesteaders heading south. Wellington is the county seat for Sumner County, which calls itself “Wheat Capital of the World.”
