DescriptionWells took its name from a number of calm springs. This area, where I-80 and US 93 intersect, was an important stop for late 19th-century pioneers following the Humboldt Trail. The ruts left by the iron-rimmed wheels of their wagons still can be seen in nearby rocks.
For a panorama of the area, summer visitors can hike on trails leading from nearby Angel Lake to the 11,000-foot “Hole in the Mountain Peak.” Angel Lake is accessible from Wells late May through late September via SR 582, a precipitous two-lane road.
