DescriptionFounded in 1804, this Missouri River town is still a center for tobacco production. Tobacco grown locally is processed in warehouses that line Main Street and sold at auctions held from mid-November to February. The vintage antebellum houses and buildings here are similar in appearance to the Classical Revival and Federal-style dwellings built in the early 19th century in Virginia and Kentucky.
The McCormick Distillery, One McCormick Lane, offers tours of its facility. The welcome center is open Mon.-Thurs. 10-5 (last tour at 3), Fri.-Sat. 10-7 (last tour at 5:30), Sun. 10-5 (last tour at 3:30). For more information phone (816) 640-3056.
