DescriptionNot a trace is left of the plantation house for which White Castle is named. The gabled 19th-century manor fell victim to the whims of the mighty Mississippi. The encroaching river forced owners to move the house four times, and each time a section of the building was lost. The “castle” was ultimately reduced to two cottages; today all that remains is its name. A scenic stretch of SR 1 passes through White Castle, intersecting SR 404.
