Wolf Creek is a popular point for sports enthusiasts bound for Holter Lake, 5 miles southeast of town. The result of one of a series of dams on the Upper Missouri River, the lake is bordered by the Sleeping Giant Wilderness, Beartooth Wildlife Management Area and Helena National Forest.
Almost all of the lake's recreational facilities are on its eastern shore. A particularly scenic drive begins at the junction of US 287 and SR 200 north of Wolf Creek, proceeds south on US 287 to the junction with I-15, then on to Helena, Butte and the Idaho border, passing some of Montana's most impressive mountains.
