AAA Editor Notes
Old Alabama Town, downtown at 301 Columbus St., is a collection of 50 restored buildings representing life in 19th- and early 20th-century central Alabama. The village depicts living and working conditions ranging from the simple existence of rural pioneers to the elegant surroundings of the urban gentry.

Included are a three-story 1850 Italianate townhouse that retains its original kitchen, slave quarters and well; a country doctor's office, with period medical equipment and implements; an 1892 corner grocery whose shelves are stocked with goods common to that time; a log cabin; a cotton gin; a blacksmith shop; a gristmill; and shotgun and dogtrot houses. Drugstore and print shop museums depict those occupations.

Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
