State Black Archives, Research Center and Museum is at 4900 Meridian St. N., in the James Hembray Wilson Building on the campus of Alabama A&M University. Along with African-American research materials, the center houses a museum with exhibits relating to African-American history and culture. Permanent exhibits focus on Buffalo soldiers, African-American women and an art collection featuring prominent artists such as Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence. Guided tours are available.
$5; $4 (ages 60+); $3 (ages 6-11).
Hours: Mon.-Fri. 9-4:30. Last tour begins 1 hour before closing. Closed university holidays.
