Weeden House Museum, 300 Gates Ave. S.E., is furnished with antiques from the early- to mid-1800s. The 1819 house is the birthplace of artist and poet Maria Howard Weeden, who became known internationally in the 1890s for her watercolor portraits of African-Americans and poems that captured their personalities and stories. Features include a cantilevered staircase, hand-carved mantels and a leaded-glass fanlight as well as Weeden's artwork. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
