Pioneer Park is at 2300 Airport Way. The pioneer theme park offers four museums; the Kitty Hensley and Wickersham houses, two restored early 20th-century dwellings; the renovated S.S. Nenana, one of the largest wooden sternwheelers ever constructed; Red & Roela's Carousel; and a train that travels and offers unique views of the park. At Pioneer Hall, The Pioneer Museum features artifacts from early settlers and The Big Stampede Theater highlights 15 paintings by Rusty Heurlin. Such activities as miniature golf are provided; bocce courts as well as horseshoe and volleyball areas also are on the premises. A revue show at The Palace Theatre also is offered. Rental bicycles, canoes and kayaks are available. Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
Park free. Palace Theater show $22; $11 (ages 4-13). Big Stampede show $4; $2 (ages 6-16). Carousel $3. Train ride $2; $1 (ages 0-12 and 65+). A small fee is applicable at several of the attractions and museums.
Hours: Park open daily 24 hours, year-round. Vendors open noon-8, Memorial Day-Labor Day. Train trips depart every 15 minutes noon-4 and 5-7:45. Palace Theater show nightly at 8:15, mid-May to early Sept. Theater show is not recommended for children under 13. Big Stampede shows are presented daily at 11:30, 1, 2:30 and 4.
