Totem Bight State Historical Park, 10 mi. n. on N. Tongass Hwy., displays 14 poles by Haida and Tlingit clans and a model of a Tlingit clan house. The site is reached by a short trail through a forest from the parking area. A brochure describes typical totem characters and gives insight to the art of totem carving. More totem poles are in Saxman Native Village, 2.5 miles south on S. Tongass Highway.

Hours: Daily 6 a.m.-10 p.m., May-Sept.; Mon.-Fri. 10-4, rest of year. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
