Sitka Historical Society and Museum is at 330 Harbor Dr. in the Harrigan Centennial Building. The museum features exhibits depicting the history of Sitka, including the area's earliest inhabitants and the legacy of World War II. Displays illustrate the lifestyles of the Tlingit along with the town's Russian, Finish, Asian and American settlers. An 8-square-foot diorama shows Sitka as it appeared in 1867, the year Alaska was transferred to the United States from Russia.
Note: The museum is closed for renovations; reopening is scheduled for spring 2017. Phone ahead to confirm schedule and admission.
