Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is on Mayor Magrath Dr. at 9th Ave. Five basic types of traditional Japanese gardens are incorporated into the overall design, which is one of the most authentic of its kind in North America. A pavilion, bridges, a bell tower imported from Japan and cypress wood structures from Taiwan are featured; paths punctuated by footbridges over ponds and streams weave through the gardens.
A variety of ongoing activities are offered, including cultural, historical and horticultural experiences. Visitors can take in art exhibitions or learn pruning and gardening techniques. Guides in traditional Japanese garments conduct tours daily. Special events, which take place regularly, include traditional Japanese art demonstrations of bonsai, flower arranging, origami, sand art and calligraphy. A tea ceremony is offered the second Sunday of every month.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
