Nordegg Heritage Centre and the Brazeau Collieries National Historic Site

Nordegg Heritage Centre and the Brazeau Collieries National Historic Site is .5 km (.3 mi.) s. of Hwy. 11. The center offers a small museum that hosts displays relating to the area’s natural and cultural heritage. Two-hour guided tours are offered. The Auxillary Tour explores the mine site's auxillary buildings such as workshops, houses and the external workings of the mining operations while looking at Brazeau's technical aspects and the working lives of miners. Visitors can see the entrance to the mine shaft. The second tour goes through the briquette plant and are organized at the museum, but visitors must drive their own vehicle to the mine site.

Note: The guided tours of the briquette plant involve a lot of walking and climbing; in addition it is necessary to maneuver through remnants of the operation and ascend steep ladders in tight spaces.
