University of Alberta Botanic Garden is 8 km (5 mi.) n. on Hwy. 60 (Devonian Way). Comprising 97 hectares (240 acres) of cultivated gardens and natural areas, the garden includes a Japanese garden, a butterfly house, ecological reserves and collections of perennial and annual plants. Nature trails and guided tram tours also are offered. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
$13.50; $9.75 (ages 65+); $7.35 (students with ID); $5 (ages 13-17); $3 (ages 4-12); $31 (family, two adults and all children). Tram tour $5; $4 (ages 13-17); $3 (ages 3-12).
Hours: Daily 10-6 (also Thurs. 6-8:30 p.m.), June 1-Labour Day; 10-5 in May and day after Labour Day-Thanksgiving. Tram tours daily June-Aug. and most weekends during spring and fall; schedule varies. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
