Phoenix International Raceway is w. off I-10 to exit 131 (Avondale Blvd.), then 5.6 mi. s. to 7602 S. Avondale Blvd. Opened in 1964 at the foot of the Estrella Mountains, the raceway took off in 1988 with the arrival of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (formerly NASCAR Winston Cup Series).
Two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekends are the raceway's main draws. The facility has reserved seats for 76,000. With hillside and infield seating surrounding the 1-mile oval paved racetrack, the raceway can accommodate more than 100,000 fans.
