Riordan Mansion State Historic Park is .5 mi. n. of jct. I-17 and I-40 (off Milton Rd.) at 409 W. Riordan Rd. Built in 1904, the 40-room mansion was home to prominent lumbermen Timothy and Michael Riordan and their families. The rustic exterior incorporates log-slab siding, volcanic stone arches and hand-split wood shingles. The lavish Arts and Crafts-style interior contains handcrafted and Stickley furniture, a Steinway piano, stained-glass windows and personal family items, which can be seen via a guided tour. The park's visitor center has exhibits and a children's “touch table.” Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$10; $5 (ages 7-13). Reservations are recommended for guided tours.
Hours: Grounds daily 9:30-5, May-Oct.; Thurs.-Mon. 10:30-5, rest of year. Guided tours of the mansion are given on the hour daily 10-4, May-Oct.; 11-4, rest of year. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
