Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, w. off SR 82 onto 4th St., then 1.7 mi. s. on Pennsylvania Ave., is home to more than 300 species of birds as well as mountain lions, bobcats, deer, javelinas, coyotes and turtles. The preserve also protects the cottonwood-willow riparian forest containing some of the largest and oldest Fremont cottonwood trees in the world. A self-guiding nature trail and a visitor center are available.
$6; $3 (Santa Cruz/Conchise County residents); free (ages 0-16 and Patagonia residents).
Hours: Wed.-Sun. 6:30-4, Apr.-Sept.; 7:30-4, rest of year. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving and Christmas.
