Heard Museum, 2301 N. Central Ave., is a museum of native cultures and art. Among the exhibits in its 12 galleries are contemporary, ethnological and historical materials of Southwestern Native Americans; Native American basketry, jewelry and pottery; and Kachina dolls. Visitors are greeted with colorful images as they enter the exhibit area. The architecture, foods, culture and spirituality of more than 20 tribes from desert, uplands and the Colorado Plateau regions are examined. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to work on a bead loom and experience re-created geographic settings of Native Americans. Changing exhibits and audiovisual presentations also are featured. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$18; $13.50 (ages 65+); $7.50 (ages 6-12 and students with ID); free (Native Americans).
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9:30-5, Sun. 11-5. Guided tours are given daily at noon, 1, 2 and 3. Closed Easter, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
