South Mountain Park, 8 mi. s. at 10919 S. Central Ave., contains more than 16,000 acres of peaks, canyons and strange rock formations as well as native Arizona flora. The park also features Native American petroglyphs. There are some 50 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Dobbins Lookout, accessible by road and trail, affords an excellent view. The Pima Canyon park entrance (9904 S. 4th St.) offers convenient access to many of the hiking trails.
Note: Park roads are closed to motorists on the fourth Sunday of every month; trailhead access points outside the park remain open.
Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Picnicking is permitted.
