Catalina State Park, 9 mi. n. off SR 77 Milepost 81 to 11570 N. Oracle Rd., is home to 5,500 acres of desert plants. At the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains, the park's activities include bird-watching, hiking, camping and horseback riding. A .75-mile interpretive trail winds around the Romero Ruins, the site of a Hohokam village occupied 500-1450.
