Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is at 239 Turpentine Creek Ln. This animal rescue center specializes in large exotic cats—cougars, leopards, lions and tigers—although visitors can see smaller species of exotic cats, monkeys, a grizzly bear habitat and other assorted wildlife as well. The refuge’s Education Station features exhibits about the biology of big cats including several hands-on displays. Brief descriptions are posted at each animal’s enclosure recounting its life and how it came to be at the refuge. Guided tours of the natural-looking enclosures are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
$20; $15 (ages 13-19); $10 (ages 4-12, ages 65+ and veterans with ID); free (ages 0-3).
Hours: Open daily 9-6, Mar.-Oct.; 9-5, rest of year. Guided tours depart on the hour 10-4, Mar.-Oct.; on the hour 10-3, rest of year. Feeding time is daily at 5, Mar.-Oct.; at 4, rest of year. Closed Christmas.
