Blanchard Springs Caverns is 15 mi. n.w. on SR 14. Guided tours include three underground passageways. A visitor center has an exhibit hall and shows a 20-minute movie every half-hour. The half-mile Dripstone Trail tour lasts 1 hour and covers a variety of cave formations in the upper level of the cave. The 1.2-mile Discovery Trail tour lasts 90 minutes and follows a cave stream and water-carved passages into the caverns' middle level. This trail has many steps and is not recommended for those with small children, limited mobility or respiratory problems. For the more adventurous, the strenuous 5-hour, 1-mile Wild Cave tour explores the undeveloped reaches of the underground system. Cave gear is provided. The caverns are 58 degrees Fahrenheit and damp; dress appropriately. Shoes with a low heel and nonslip sole are recommended. Boots are required for Wild Cave tour.
Fee for trail tours $10.50; $5.50 (ages 6-15 and holders of National Forest Interagency Senior and Access passes); 50c (ages 0-5). Fee for Wild Cave tour $75.50; ages 10-12 must be with an adult and under 10 are not permitted. Reservations are suggested for the Dripstone Trail and Discovery Trail tours. Reservations are required for the Wild Cave tour.
Hours: Dripstone Trail tour departs approximately every hour daily 9:30-6, Apr.-Oct.; Wed.-Sun. 9:30-6, rest of year. Last tour begins at 5. Discovery Trail tour departs approximately every hour daily 10:30-4:30, June-Aug. Last tour begins at 4:30. Wild Cave tour departs daily at 9:30, Apr.-Oct.; Wed.-Sun. at 9:30, rest of year. Visitors with reservations must arrive 30 minutes before departure. Visitor center open daily 9:30-6, Apr.-Oct.; Wed.-Sun. 9:30-6, rest of year. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
