Powhatan Historic State Park is at 4414 SR 25. The park's centerpiece is a restored 1888 two-story brick courthouse containing official Lawrence County records dating from 1813. Exhibits depict the history of Powhatan. An 1873 restored limestone jail, which contains two original cells, is one of the restored buildings on the grounds. Tours include the jail, restored residences, businesses and the 1889 Powhatan Academy. Entry into the historic buildings is by guided tour only; town site and courthouse are self-guiding. Educational workshops are offered by reservation.
Town site admission free. Guided tours $5; $3 (ages 6-12); $15 (family). Phone ahead to confirm rates.
Hours: Tues.-Sat. and Mon. holidays 8-5, Sun. 1-5. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.
