Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park is e. on US 62. Marking the site of a Civil War battle fought on Dec. 7, 1862, the 838-acre park contains a 55-foot monument, 19th-century houses and buildings, a museum, a walking trail and a 5-mile self-guiding driving tour. Interpretive programs include living-history presentations. In even-numbered years the battle is re-created. A geocaching tour also is available. Guided tours are available.
Park and museum free. Guided building tour $5; $3 (ages 6-12); $15 (family). Phone ahead to confirm rates.
Hours: Park open daily 8 a.m.-1 hour after dusk. Museum open daily 8-5; closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.
