Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge is off SR 1 along the White River. The refuge consists of approximately 160,000 acres of actively managed land, largely bottomland hardwood forest, with 90 miles of river and 356 lakes. This is a wintering area for large numbers of migratory waterfowl. The visitor center offers natural history exhibits and a wildlife diorama depicting habitats and animals found at the refuge. Videos educate visitors about the importance of flooding on the refuge and how to experience the refuge at night. Activities include hunting, fishing and wildlife photography.
A permit must be in possession by all refuge users and can be obtained at the visitor center.
