AAA Editor Notes

Crowley's Ridge State Park is at 2092 SR 168. The 298-acre park is in a hardwood forest atop Crowley's Ridge, a rare geological formation extending for some 200 miles from southern Missouri to eastern Arkansas. Composed of deposits of windblown silt, or loess, the ridge is believed to be unique in the Western Hemisphere; another exists in Siberia. A gravesite monument to Benjamin Crowley honors the first settler in the area and a soldier in the War of 1812. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
Free.
Hours: Park open daily 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Visitor center open daily 8-5 (also Fri.-Sat. 5-8, Memorial Day weekend-July 4). Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
