AAA Editor Notes

Fort Zoutman and the Willem III Tower is on Zoutmanstraat. Dominating the city's skyline, the fort was built in 1798 to protect the island from pirates, while the tower was added in 1868 to serve as a lighthouse. It was named in honor of the reigning Dutch king. Historical displays at the Museo Arubano include weights and measures, coins, historic documents, furniture and antique tools. The Bon Bini Festival is held every Tuesday evening on the patio of the fort from 6:30-8:30; visitors can sample Aruban cuisine, crafts, music and dancing. Guided tours are available.
Fort (includes guided tour) $5. Festival $5.
Hours: Museum open Mon.-Fri. 9-4.
