Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill is about 1 mi. (1.6 km) s.e. of Cherry Tree Hill. The last working example of some 500 sugar mills that once dotted the island, this massive windmill has been restored by the Barbados National Trust. Stones in the conical tower were cemented together with a mixture of egg whites and coral dust. Visitors can enter the 18th-century mill and observe the machinery used to grind sugar cane until the 1940s; exhibits include historic photographs and plantation artifacts. The window on the top level provides a striking view of the surrounding Scotland District.
