Vancouver Island Butterfly World & Orchid Gardens is 1 km (.6 mi.) w. on Hwy. 4A at 1080 Winchester Rd. A walk-through tropical garden contains more than 30 species of free-flying butterflies; the insect's life cycle is portrayed through displays.
Other exhibits include birds in an outdoor aviary, a Japanese water garden with exotic fish, an orchid garden with some 800 orchids, a turtle pond, a petting zoo in the summer and Big Bug Jungle—an insectary housing large live jungle insects. An indoor water garden displays hundreds of orchids from around the world set among waterfalls and ponds.
