AAA Editor Notes
The Cabinet Building is at 105 Front St. Known as the Secretariat, the 1841 building houses several government offices and the council chamber of the Senate, the upper house of the legislature. Portraits of Queen Victoria, Sir Thomas Gates, William Herbert, Sir Edwin Sandys, King George III and Queen Charlotte are of special interest. Sculptures and war memorials are on the grounds: highlights include “The Cenotaph,” honoring local members of the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and British Army who died during World Wars I and II; and a bronze statue of Sally Bassett erected in 2009 to memorialize the struggles of local slaves.
