New Westminster Museum and Archives is in the Anvil Centre at 777 Columbia St. The museum traces the history of New Westminster with engaging local history displays and temporary exhibitions. Highlights include exhibits about the gold rush, the Great Fire of 1898 and the British Columbia Penitentiary. More than 35,000 artifacts are on display, including an 1876 coach built to carry the Governor-General of Canada to the Cariboo goldfields.
