Big Qualicum Hatchery is 2.5 km (1.5 mi.) s. on Hwy. 4W, 14.5 km (9 mi.) w. on Hwy. 19, then 2.4 km (1.5 mi.) s.w. on Horne Lake Rd. to Fisheries Rd., following signs. Millions of chum, coho and chinook salmon are hatched here each year as part of the country's efforts to restore its salmon population. Steelhead and cutthroat trout also are raised. Visitors can see holding ponds, rearing channels and incubation units. Hiking trails are available.
