Angels Camp Museum is at 753 S. Main St. This 3-acre historical park, the site of a former mine, has exhibits dedicated to the gold country history of Angels Camp and the surrounding Mother Lode region. Outdoor exhibits on the beautifully landscaped grounds include one of the nation's largest collections of wagons and carriages. The Altaville Schoolhouse is one of the oldest and best preserved little red schoolhouses in California, while the Sam Choy mercantile tells the story of Asian culture brought to Angels Camp by Chinese immigrants.

Exhibits highlighting mining history include two steam traction engines, a hydraulic monitor, drills, ore cars and a working model of a stamp mill, along with an overshot water wheel that stands at its original location. There also is a medical exhibit, ranching and local artisan exhibits, and The Mark Twain Exhibit, devoted to the author of “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
