Rainbow Basin National Natural Landmark is 8 mi. n. via old Hwy. 58, 6 mi. n. on Irwin Rd., then 2 mi. w. on Fossil Bed Rd. (last 3 mi. are unpaved). This desert basin was formed by millions of years of the shifting and upheaval of the Earth's crust. Rock walls, in shades of red, brown, green and white, hold fossils and an abundance of minerals. The 8-mile loop road offers good views of colorful rock formations.

Note: Collecting of rocks, plants or wildlife is prohibited. Only vehicles less than 25 feet in length are permitted on the loop; motor homes, buses and towed vehicles are prohibited. Hiking and camping are permitted at Owl Canyon Campground; campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Camping is permitted.
