A pleasant stay
Pros: I love the Claremont. My hotel of choice in the Berkeley area. I like the SPA facilities, grounds and rooms.
Cons: Remodeling - but should be finished soon
Evocative of Nostalgia for the...
Pros: The view from our room was fantastic, paid extra for a room with a view and it was worth it! In a very good location for us, a few blocks from where we used to live and the friends we were visiting. Very large room.
Cons: The basic price of the room, i.e. without the extra for the view, was higher than other hotels in the Oakland/Berkeley area but there were surprising missing things: no ice bucket in the room and no extra blankets (there were no blankets on the bed, just sheets and the bedspread).

Cons: Dinning room slow service
Sunday morning , rude hostess with time prior to 9:30 sent us to Bayview cafe. Very slow service
Beautiful stay in Bay Area
Pros: Rooms are comfortable and charming
Pros: Restaurant staff was just outstanding with their efforts to make our stay most enjoyable.
Cons: No dancing. Bring back the dancing and music.
Pros: The spa is nice and the restaurant is great.
Cons: The room was not ready when we arrived and after a hour they gave us a different room on a lower floor. Not really the view we hoped for but ok. The phones and tv remote didn't work.
Please don't stay here
Cons: I was given the wrong room (smaller and not the view I paid for), next to construction-and the representative that I spoke with to fix the issue, was the rudest I'd ever met.
Very nice property, extra fees...
Pros: It is a gorgeous property. It is under construction many halls are marked off by plastic.
Cons: The construction noise. I understand it's a high end property, but the fees are outrages. I had about 300 dollars in just fees for 3 nights.
Pros: staff was helpful and friendly
Cons: major renovation and half of the hotel under construction. Nothing that warned about this. As a result, 1 restuarant and no lobby.
Pros: Resort like feel
Cons: Rooms need to be updated
A quiet place to work...
Pros: I needed a quiet room to work. That's exactly what I got. The hotel is undergoing renovation, but I managed to tune out the noise of construction during the day. Night was fine.
Cons: The menu at the Meritage is way overpriced. Food preparation is indifferent. Thirty-five dollars for a basic bacon and egg breakfast? that is way out of line.

THIS PLACE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Cons: The hotel is under construction and we literally had a work crew on top of us during the day. Sheets of plastic, plaster falling down in the hallways. It's a mess. Service was only okay. Restaurant for dinner was good.

Great stay even in the...
Pros: The facilities were nice and the hotel did pretty well at using what spaces were not under renovation.
Cons: Rooms are a bit old, but are under renovation. The main spaces of the hotel are under renovation as well, so was a bit strange with the makeshift lobby, etc.
Pros: The view from our room was great!
Cons: For being a suite, the bathroom could have been better updated. The sink drained really slow and the toilet reminded me of something in a public bathroom.
Pros: Great views of the bay. Nice staff.
Cons: Construction. We love the bar with a View of the bay, but it was closed for renovations as was the grand lobby. Made the trip less enjoyable.

Lovely room, but late night...
Pros: The room was lovely and spacious.
Cons: Two things-My room -703-was below the restaurant. Moving furniture late at night kept me up. My parking was credited after I mentioned it. I left a pair of shoes in the room; 2 calls to housekeeping were not returned. I had to call a 3rd time and ask for a supervisor. The shoes did not turn up and I am 99% sure they were left there unless someone working for Southwest opened my suitcase and took a pair of Tevas. I doubt that.
Cons: The hotel is undergoing major a renovation program (all 270 rooms are being renovated as well as lobby area and restaurant area) with a lot of nuisance for the clients, elevators not functioning, noise, dirt, back door reception area, certain restaurants closed, etc.. Not the grandeur, quality and service as we have the right to expect and as a result a lot of complaining clients at the reception all the time. Absolutely not worth the price at this moment. Staff promises the hotel will look nice after the renovation will be finished in 3 months, but that is poor consolation for the current clients.
The renovation has been going on for several months are they are now half way.
With its location the hotel is normally the best option in town, but I was disappointed.
Hotel should have been proactive and communicate better about the inconveniences and renovation and compensate the clients for it.
Splendid, magical place - fantastic...
Pros: Staff was awesome! We stayed in a recently renovated room, which was splendid. Room view was spectacular, spa was great, wonderful place for our 24th anniversary.
Cons: Ongoing renovation cramped our ability to explore the hotel, room needs HD cable and Pac 12 Network to watch the Golden Bears! And wife needed a new room robe as first one had a stain on it (staff responded immediately)
Pros: The restaurant, fare and service were very adequate.
Cons: "Steerage", not a "Junior Suite". "Suite" Nothing could have been farther from the description. Along the marathon hike and 2 elevator changes from the front desk, we were told of our newly renovated suite by the bellman en route. He could have done a book report on "War and Peace" in the time it took to walk there.
I found a black gum sock on our carpet upon first entrance. This tells me my room had not been vacuumed or the sock would have been found. The ancient receptacles would not hold a charge cord either. Very amateurish...
Will be lively when the...
Pros: I liked the location and the visit to the spa and gym. I was not expecting to walk through construction. There was a constant mechanical generator hum that prevented restful sleep.
Please advise future guests about...
Pros: The staff was very helpful. And the room was comfortable.
Cons: We were unaware there was no air conditioning in the room. The temperature hovered between 78 and 80 degrees. It was difficult to sleep.
Convenient, restful and pleasant
Pros: Although the hotel is under construction for renovation, we were very comfortable and not bothered by noise or dust. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Pool and club were very pleasant.
not good would not come...
Pros: nice bed
Cons: under construction, poor room lots of noise
fire alarm going off early morning construction issue, poor parking no lighting
hard to find check in area, old elevators
romantic weekend getaway
Pros: beautiful property with great staff.
they even sent a nice birthday chocolate to our room when they found out we are celebrating my husband's late B-day.
nice spa and jacuzzi facilities.
Cons: lost of constructions in the building. Fire alarm went off early morning. main lobby was closed off and we had to walk through many hallways to get to our room.
very overpriced and bad coffee/espresso in the restaurant.
a once great hotel in...
Pros: very pleasant staff
great health club/spa facility
Cons: the hotel has been in need of renovation. It is tired. Rooms are dated, especially bathrooms.
Only one of three elevartors was working and this continued for at least two days.
