Pacific Southwest Railway Museum is at SR 94 and Forrest Gate Road at 750 Depot St. The museum showcases a large collection of vintage locomotives, cabooses, freight and passenger cars, and other railway memorabilia spanning more than 100 years. A scenic 12-mile, 75-minute round-trip ride aboard a vintage train takes passengers through San Diego’s backcountry mountains; the trip includes a tour of the museum. Special themed train trips for families are held throughout the year. Picnic and children's play areas as well as a vintage railway station are on the grounds. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
Museum tour $5; $2.50 (ages 6-12). Train ride and museum tour $15; $12 (ages 65+); $10 (ages 3-12); $5 (ages 0-2). Rides with the engineer in the locomotive $35 (limit 2 persons per trip; reservations are required).
Hours: Museum Sat.-Sun. 9-5, early Jan.-weekend before Father’s Day and mid-Oct. through Thanksgiving.; Sat. noon-7, Sun. 10-3, Father’s Day weekend to mid-Oct.; Sat. noon-dusk, day after Thanksgiving-Christmas. Phone for train schedules. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
