Pros: Location is perfect, just a few blocks from the main drag, Ocean Street. 2 great restaurants right across the street. There is a nice mini-mart about a block away with a full coffee bar. King bed was very comfortable. Bathroom had been renovated and was very nice, but not much counter space. The room was very clean and large, with a sitting room.
Cons: Staff could have been friendlier, he didn't even smile. We felt like we were interrupting his day. We were given a room with only 1 king bed, but had paid for 1 King and a Twin. Couldn't call the office from the room as the phones weren't working. Not sure if that is a permanent or temporary situation. Not very safe in the event of a fire or break-in, etc.
Since we had dinner reservations, we unpacked and got ready, then went to the office and asked about the additional bed, thinking they could just give us a roll-away. We were told we could move everything now to a new room, or let them know when we would be returning from dinner. Since we didn't want to be on a timetable for our dinner, we chose to move everything then, even though we were running late for our reservation. We were given the same over-sized room, but with a King and a twin trundle bed. The top mattress of the trundle had no sheets, so I had to sleep on the pull out, a very thin mattress on a spring base. Very uncomfortable. The man in the office did apologize for the mix-up when we checked out the next day.
Only the bed and stiff antique chairs to sit on, would have been nice to have a sofa or more comfortable chairs.
Breakfast was the usual carb-loaded stuff - bread, pastries, cereal. Coffee, orange juice, and milk.
Pool was empty. No hot tub, would have been nice.
The price was high, but it's in Carmel, so compared to other hotels, I guess it was about average.
