AAA Editor Notes
Cedar Canyon Road runs e. and w. between the Kelso Cima and Ivanpah rds., passing remnants of old ranches and homesteads—stark reminders of life in the desert during the late 1800s. Part of this road follows Mojave Road, or Old Government Road, one of the first routes developed through this region for wagon use in the 1850s and '60s.
Note: Most of Mojave Road is accessible only by four-wheel-drive vehicles. Guidebooks for the 130-mile route are available for a fee at the National Park Service, Mojave National Preserve offices in Barstow, Kelso and Hole-in-the-Wall.
Guidebooks about $20.
