Humboldt Botanical Garden is on the College of the Redwoods campus; take exit 698 off US 101 South and turn right onto Tompkins Hill Rd., turn left at the north campus entrance, then take the first left at the top of the hill and proceed to the Mercer-Fraser Auto Garden to park. Native grasslands, a Douglas fir reserve, an ornamental terrace garden and a Mediterranean allée are among the themed areas. The garden of California natives overlooks Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Dogs on leashes are permitted. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.).
$8; $5 (ages 6-17 and 60+, active-duty military with ID and dogs); free (College of the Redwoods students and faculty and garden members).
Hours: Wed.-Sun. 10-4, Apr.-Oct.; Wed.-Sat. 10-2, Sun. 11-3, rest of year.
