Coyote Hills Regional Park is at 8000 Patterson Ranch Rd. The park is a 977-acre wildlife sanctuary containing 2,000-year-old Native American shell mounds and a reconstructed Indian village. The park also has more than 40 miles of hiking, bicycling and jogging trails, a museum, a visitor center, a butterfly garden and a boardwalk through a freshwater marsh habitat. Nature programs are conducted on weekends. Picnicking is permitted.
Day use $5 per private vehicle, $4 per trailered vehicle. Leashed dogs are permitted in some areas; fee $2.
Hours: Park open daily 8-8, mid-Apr. through Aug. 31; 8-7, early Mar. to mid-Apr. and Sept.-Oct.; 8-6, rest of year. Visitor center and museum open Wed.-Sun. 10-4 (also Mon. holidays, Memorial Day-Labor Day). Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
