Hilmar Cheese Co. is at 9001 N. Lander Ave. (SR 165). The company's visitor center has viewing windows through which guests can watch the cheese-making and packaging process. More than a million pounds of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese are produced here each day.

Hands-on exhibits allow visitors to dress like a cheesemaker, mix a cow's meal and learn about nutrition. The film “Lights, Camera, Cheese” provides additional information. Guided tours are available, including a special tour that concludes with a make-your-own-ice cream activity. Complimentary cheese samples are provided.

Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.

Hours
Visitor center open Mon.-Sat. 7-7, Sun. 7-5. Guided visitor center tours are given Mon.-Fri. at 11 and 1, Sat.-Sun. at 10 and 11, June-Aug.; Sat.-Sun. at 10 and 11, rest of year. Make-your-own-ice cream activity is added to the Mon.-Fri. 11 a.m. tour, early June-late Aug. Closed major holidays. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
