Clear Lake State Park is 3 mi. n.e. at 5300 Soda Bay Rd. The lake, California's largest freshwater body of water, is a popular spot for all forms of water-based recreation. Fishing, for bass in particular, is particularly good, and a nature trail passes through the site of a former Pomo Indian village. The visitor center has wildlife dioramas and exhibits depicting the lake environment both on land and in water. A theater presents videos, films and demonstrations. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Park $8 per private vehicle; $7 (ages 62+ per private vehicle).
Hours: Daily dawn-dusk. Visitor center open Sat. 10-4, Sun. 10-1, Memorial Day-Labor Day. Phone ahead to confirm visitor center schedule.
