Descanso Gardens, s. of Foothill Blvd. at 1418 Descanso Dr., is a woodland garden in the midst of California chaparral. The 160-acre botanic garden contains thousands of camellia trees and bushes growing in a 20-acre live oak forest. The Oak Woodland features perennials, grasses and oak trees. The camellias bloom October through April. A 5-acre rose garden showcases antique and modern roses informally planted with shrubs, annuals and perennials, with peak bloom May through December.
