The Salk Institute for Biological Studies, 10010 N. Torrey Pines Rd., is one of the world's foremost centers conducting biomedical research. Areas of focus include molecular and plant biology, genetics, and the neurosciences. The 26-acre campus overlooks the Pacific Ocean; its laboratories are housed in buildings designed by modernist architect Louis I. Kahn for the institute's founding director Dr. Jonas Salk.
