Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, 12600 N. Torrey Pines Rd., preserves the 1,750-acre natural habitat of the rare Torrey pine, which Pacific winds often twist into unusual shapes. Self-guiding tours, nature walks and a historic lodge/museum are available. Note: Although not officially condoned, Black’s Beach, which is part of Torrey Pines State Beach, is treated by some visitors as a clothing optional area. Camping, pets, biking and picnicking are not permitted. Guided tours are available.
South Beach entrance Fri.-Sun. and holidays $12-$20 (per private vehicle); Mon.-Thurs. $10-$12 (per private vehicle); pedestrians free. Parking: North Beach lot Fri.-Sun. and holidays $6 (1 hour); $15 (all day). North Beach lot Mon.-Thurs. $4 (1 hour); $12 (all day).
Hours: Reserve open daily 7:15-dusk. Museum open daily 9-6, Apr.-Oct.; 10-4, rest of year. Free guided nature walks are conducted Sat.-Sun. and holidays at 10 and 2.
