Descanso Gardens

Descanso Gardens, s. of Foothill Blvd. at 1418 Descanso Dr., is a botanical garden in the midst of California chaparral. The 150-acre botanic garden contains thousands of camellia trees and bushes growing in a 20-acre live oak forest. The Oak Woodland features perennials, grasses and oak trees. The camellias bloom October through April. A 5-acre rose garden showcases roses informally planted with shrubs, annuals and perennials, with peak bloom April through September. The lilac garden blooms in spring while the California Garden blooms late winter through early summer. A miniature train provides rides around the garden.

The Sturt Haaga Gallery presents rotating contemporary art, science and history exhibits. Family-friendly programs, horticultural events, lectures, classes, demonstrations and flower shows are held throughout the year.

Wheelchairs are available upon request. Pets, bicycles, sports equipment and CD/audio players and radios are not permitted. Picnicking is permitted in designated area only.
