Martial Arts History Museum, w. of I-5 at 2319 W. Magnolia Blvd., highlights the history, artistry and culture of martial arts. Containing antique weaponry, information panels and movies, the museum presents exhibits designed by artists from both “The Simpsons” and The Walt Disney Company. Displays detail various martial arts from around the world, including karate (Japan), muay thai (Thailand), judo (Japan), hapkido (Korea) and kapa kuialua (Hawaii). Other exhibits show antique weaponry ranging from authentic tai chi swords to butterfly knives, chain whips, wind-and-fire wheels and axes.

An illustrated timeline traces the rise of martial arts in media and entertainment. Featured items include the sun-emblazoned headband worn by actor Ralph Macchio in the 1986 “Karate Kid, Part II,” and the black hat worn by actor Tom Laughlin in the 1971 classic “Billy Jack,” a film which predated the entertainment industry's use of martial arts.

Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
