McHenry Museum is at 1402 I St. Exhibits about the history of Modesto and Stanislaus County focus on the Yokut Indians, the gold rush, the founding of Modesto, agriculture and irrigation, local baseball and that old teenage rite of passage, automobile cruising. Re-created period settings include a barbershop, general store, school and county assessor's office. Changing exhibits also are featured. Guided tours are available.
Donations. Reservations are required for guided tours.
Hours: Tues.-Sun. noon-4. Closed major holidays.
