AAA Editor Notes
Colton Hall Museum, in the civic center on Pacific St. facing Friendly Plaza, is in the building where the first Constitution of California was debated, written and signed by delegates in 1849. Now a museum dedicated to its history, the building originally served as the town hall and school and was the largest public hall west of the Rockies. Adjoining Colton Hall, which was completed in 1849, is the Old Monterey Jail, built in 1854.
